Osorezan is the famous sacred grounds in Japan. There are Japanese shaman “Itako” at the gate of this temple. Itako is the a blind miko (Japanese shaman). I heard because it is windy in this area, there were many blind kids. Blind girl became itako and boy played the shamisen. These itako invoke departed souls (kuchiyose). A few years ago, my parents visited here and let itako come down the dead grandmother’s spirit. She appeared (itako spoke) and said “I was terribly worried about the January 17th.” to my mother. When my mother heard this, she was shocked, because this date is her brother’s birthday. Grandmother loved him very much, but after grandmother’s death, he quit his job and lived alone. We convinced that grandma’s spirit came down the other world to this world by itako.
I hoped to meet itako, but unfortunately they only come to Osorezan at the weekend or the festival. Osorezan is the place to gather the sprigs of dead. There are many spiritual stories about the spirits and dead people. Indeed, I felt something during walking Osorezan.
