At Tokyo National Museum, they has been holding the exhibiton of Enku’s carving wooden statues of Buddha. He was born in Edo period (1632-1695). He traveled on foot around Japan, and carved about 120,000 wooden Buddha’s statues. Now we can find about 5350 statues. I think his statues have a simple yet powerful charm.
