Hokkeji temple is an old buddism temple for nun in Nara prefecture. It was built in 745 by Empress Komyo, wife of Emperor Shomu. It has been high in social status, because this temple’s head nun has been a member of the Imperial family. There is a national treasure statue of 11-face-Kannon. It is said to represent a beautiful figure of Empress Komyo who was said to shine for her beauty. Her name Komyo means that “Ko 光” is light and “Myo 明” is shiny. This statue seems to be a woman.
