Last fall, I went to Kyoto for looking for red leaves. At Rokuharamitsuji temple, there were any red leaves, but they opened the secret Kannon Goddess of Mercy which had 11 faces. It is one of the seven national treasures 11- faces-Kannon. This is the last Kannon that I watch seven national treasure Kannon. It appeares only each 12 years, and during only about one month.
I read your post with great interest. Could you tell me the significance of the red coverings/scarfs? Thanks.
I’m not sure about their red drool bibs. There are some stories. Someone said that red is a color of human’s worldly desires. We can leave our desires when we give red apron/drool bibs to stone statue of Jizo. The other story is that many baby/kids were often dead a long time ago in Japan. It is a sad story that dead kids have to stack stones as a stone tower in the other world’s river side where is not heaven. When kids finish to stack, devil comes to broke it, so kid has to do again and again. But Jizo comes down the river side in order to help, and guide them to go to heaven. Mother make red drool bib from her wear because her dead baby/kid can easily distinguish his mother’s smell. She gives it to Jizo and pray for her child’s protection and peace.

Beautiful temple. Some parts of it looks new while the other looks old. How old is the temple?
First picture is a main hall that was re-built in 1363. (This temple was originally opened in 951 by monk Kuya.) I don’t know when other halls constructed. They seem not so old.
Que belleza de lugar!, abrazos
This temple has long history, but now it become smaller in the residence area of Kyoto. The next is an school, and I can hear the voice of many children.
