I love figure skating very much, and constantly go to the ice skating rink. There are some rinks in Tokyo. At the downtown, Meiji Shrine’s skating rink near the JR Sendagaya station or Citizen skating rink at Takadanobaba are convenience to go. Though both of them open for all year, people comes to skate for winter. I think summer is the best season to skate, because the outside is over 30 degrees but rink’s temperature is only 7 degree. As for me, it is the way to overcome the hot summer in Japan.
Japan’s famous private university Waseda is near the Takadanobaba station. There are many preparatory schools and high school in this area, so this town seems to be for students. At the wall of the outside of the station, there are many Osamu Tezuka’s manga and animation characters. His company Tezuka production is in this town, and his manga/animation “Astro Boy”‘s Dr. Ocyanomizu is working at Takadanobaba in the plot, so there are some his characters on the wall and lampposts of the streets. In his works, we can find the many magical image of the future, dream and hope. I guess his characters are suitable for this students town.
