Chionji temple was said that it was constructed by the order of the emperor Heizei in 808. It is one of the three famous “Monjyu” (Manjusri; the bodhisattva of wisdom and intellect) in Japan. The other are Abeno Monjyu in Nara and Kameoka Monjyu in Yamagata. They have a secret statue of Monjyu, but we can only watch it three days a year.
