Maizuru faces Wakasa bay in Japan Sea where is North of Kyoto prefecture. Since this bay forms a natural good harbour, Japanese navy used, and now Japan Maritime Self Defense Forces is using. After the World War II, a detachment from the US occupation army was stationed at Maizuru City, while the Government designated Maizuru as a port to receive forces being recalled from the mainland. The story of “Ganpeki no haha” is very famous, that is mothers on the quay: Mothers standing and waiting desperately at the quay for their sons, namely the defeated servicemen as they came down from the vessels carrying refugees. A singer Yuriko Futaba is singing “Ganpeki no haha” which is very sad lyrics. “Mother is also coming here today. She knows her wish doesn’t come true, but she hopes her boy come back just maybe.”
