In Japan, June is the rainy season, we call this month’s long spell of rainy weather “Tsuyu”. I like rainy season’s flower hydrangea (Ajisai). There is an old temple Nogoji/Nougoji at Menuma, Kumagaya city, Saitama prefecture, that was said to be built by monk Gyoki/Gyouki in 743, and rebuilt by Kobo/Koubou-daishi Kukai in 9 century. Now it is called “Ajisai-dera” as a temple of hydrangea.

What a coincidence, I got a lot of hydrangea flowers in my yard.
Thank you for following my blog. Appreciate it.
In your area, is it rainy season? Or does hydrangea flower in summer without rainy season? I like your cat’s pictures. They are very cute!
Over here (Belgium) they also grow in the summer. Though it’s raining a lot lately…
I guess Belgium’s summer is not hotter than Japan. Tokyo’s temperature of summer,July and August, is over 30 degrees (about 80 Fahrenheit). It is too hot for hydrangeas, so June is best for them.
All the flowers are beautiful, but I’d give the lacecap hydrangea the blue ribbon.
My mother loves lacecap hydrangea so much, especially named “Sumidano Hanabi” which means the firework at Sumida river. It seems a fire-flower at the black summer sky.
