Last weekend I went to Kyusyu flower tour (Nagasaki, Saga, Fukuoka prefectures) which located in West side of Japan. I stayed in “Huis Ten Bosch“, which is a theme park in Nagasaki Prefecture, and next visited Unzen and Dazaifu in Fukuoka prefecture. Huis Ten Bosch was made as the real town that recreates the Netherlands buildings in 1992. They constructed many Dutch-style buildings facing Omura bay. There are hotels, shops, restaurants, canal, harbor and many amusement or exhibition buildings (Teddy bear, Maurice Cornelis Escher, haunted house and so on) in 152 hectare area. Why did they select the theme for Dutch’s town in Nagasaki? Because Holland was the nation to be allowed to trade during the Japan’s nation isolation of Edo period at Nagasaki, so Nagasaki was the name of only the opening the window of the world in Tokugawa shogunate era. Now I was surprised to see the view of Holland such as some windmills, bascule bridge and Western buildings when I went through the gate after coming the typical Japanese country area. There is a residence area neighboring canal that I heard Japanese actress and singer bought some cottages. When Michael Jackson had come to Fukuoka dome concert, he had reserved Huis Ten Bosch except residence area and had enjoyed.

This is just like “the Netherlands” i had to read your blog 2 times to be sure it was in Japan.
I think the planner of this town would be glad if he knew your comment.
I’m really surprised with this post. Very interesting and beautiful.
Me, too. Suddenly Holland appeared after through common Japanese village. Very exciting for me.
Beautiful photos 🙂
I’m glad that you like them. Thanks.
Incredible architecture and design, it truly is the Netherlands in the look! I will share this with my Dutch friend.
When I entered this town, I was really surprised it seemed a town of the Netherlands. I think this town planner works good.
