At 5 am, I left Gion and went to Maruyama park. In the park, I found statues of Ryoma Sakamoto and Shintaro Nakayama who were participated the movement of overthrow Tokugawa shogunate in 19C. Ryoma is very famous samurai hero in Japan.
Down the hill of Maruyama park, I walked to the Chion-in temple. The main gate (Sanmon) is the biggest wooden second-story gate in Japan. The height is 24m and width 50m.
Shoren-in temple has a beautiful garden. But it was too early to open the gate. I only took a photo of a huge camphor tree outside of the gate (trunk circumference is 5.94m and tree height is 26m).
