Daibutsuden

Emperor Shomu was orderd to build Todaiji temple and the statue of Buddha in 743.

In 752, the huge statue of Buddha was completed.

Daibustu

Daibutsu’s height is 14.98 m (49.1 ft).   “Dai” means “big”, “huge” and “great” in Japanese, and “butsu” expresses “Buddha”.
